Acknowledgments

Nothing happens in a vacuum and neither did this book. And for making it happen I have to acknowledge the subtle input of my grandkids, Jenna, Kristin, Matt, Alex, Maisie, James and Justin. Th ey do not realize, at this moment in time anyhow, how much input they have had into the content of this book. I know that they were not aware when they were being "interviewed" and peppered with questions.

Once the concept of the book took hold, and I realized that there was a book in me that had to be written, the moments, ideas and adventures I shared with these kids became part of the story. Thank you, Guys.

In the book I speak of serendipity. It played a big part in the having the idea come to fruition. When I began to write, I wrote 16 pages and I thought that was it. I said everything I had to say. Sixteen pages do not comprise a book.

As I was pondering this dilemma, a catalogue from our local ommunity College came in the mail. In it was a 2 evening course being off ered by Tom Bird of Sedona on How to Write and Get Published. I didn’t have to be hit on the head with a sledge hammer to realize that opportunity was knocking. I signed up for and took the course. With his suggestions, and contacts, the finer parts of this book got done. I would never have found Sharon Garner, who did the proof reading and editing, Manjari Henderson, who design the cover and Jamie Soloff who was responsible for the interior design if I hadn’t taken the class. Thanks Tom.

I want to thank my friends, those who took the time to read the rough draft of the book, off er their incites and allow me to quote them. They didn’t get paid a dime, and I owe them "big time" I’d like the idea of having reviews from a parents and grandparents perspective. So, to Adele and Dick Montgomery, Florence and John McLaughlin, Patti and Ed Smith, Tina and Jeff Slade, Lisa and Eric Alinder, Jamie Finner and Cindy McLachlan--thanks.

At one point, my wife, Lorraine thought that I had become an appendage to the computer. It seems that for six weeks, I spent more time pounding on the key board, mostly writing and sometimes playing Free Cell (to take a break of course), than I did on anything else. Th at’s over and Lorraine, thanks. Th anks for the support, the proof reading, the comments and the caring. I love you.

And kudos to you, the reader. Thank you for recognizing the need to help educated our grandkids and deciding to do something about it.

I know you’ll have as much fun as I’ve had, and am still having.
