14. Is Math Important? It’s very important to understand that our grandkids will have a difficult time surviving financially unless they understand basic math. Algebra and calculus are very important if you want have a future with jobs in the new innovation age, but still everyone needs to understand of basic math. Yes, I’m talking about 5th grade math. I’m talking about having an idea of what a simple answer would be to a simple problem such as knowing what your change should be after a cash transaction, or knowing when a discount is not a discount. Many people make bad decisions because they don’t understand simple math. Our grandkids need to understand the need for being competent in simple math, regardless of their chosen careers. In a Wall Street Journal.com article, Jonathon Clements states that the saving rate remains close to zero, consumer debt is up over 7% and the Pew Research Center reported that half of Americansrate their personal finances as fair or poor. |
