9. Not All Kids Are Created Equal
Unless
they are in someway handicapped at birth, all kids have the potential
to be whatever they wish to be. That ability, however, is often quashed
by our antiquated school system, which is still quagmired in the
Industrial Age, and
by well-meaning parents and grandparents.
Enough has been written about the need to transform our education
system on how to teach our kids about coping with the dramatic changes
they will face, but entrenched systems are difficult to challenge and
change, and that’s not the purpose of this book.
Everyone learns and absorbs information diff erently. Some are best at
developing their skills and interests by doing, and others understand
and learn best by reading.
I’m sure you’ve noticed that kids have their own set of
priorities, and financial independence is not one of them. They are, of
course, interested in money and realize they need it, but other than
that they’re dependent on parents, family, friends and, later on,
odd jobs to get it.
